September 11

Normal day, let me be aware of the treasure you are.
Let me learn from you, love you, bless you before you depart.
Let me not pass you by in quest of some rare and perfect tomorrow.
Let me hold you while I may, for it may not always be so.
One day I shall dig my nails into the earth, or bury my face in the pillow, or stretch myself taut, or raise my hands to the sky and want, more than all the world, your return.
~Mary Jean Irion

I will be thinking about Tuesday, September 11, 2001 on this Tuesday, September 11, 2012.  I will also be thinking about the lovely survivors who guided my tour at the World Trade Center Memorial and Freedom Tower construction site this past February.  Because they asked me not to forget about their friends and colleagues who stayed behind in Tower 2 on that day.  The friends and colleagues they still cried about, eleven years later.  And I did too.
